Description

PM Surya Ghar: Free Electricity Scheme is a government scheme that aims to provide free electricity to households in India. The scheme was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on February 15, 2024. Under this scheme, households will be given subsidies to install solar panels on their rooftops. The subsidy will cover up to 40% of the cost of the solar panel. The scheme is expected to benefit 1 crore households across India. It is estimated that the scheme will save the government Rs 75,000 crore every year in electricity costs.

Eligibility

  1. The family member should be an Indian citizen.
  2. The family must own a house with a rooftop suitable for installing solar panels.
  3. The house should have a valid electricity connection.
  4. The household must not have availed any other subsidy for solar panels.

Application Process

Step-1 : Go to official website.

Step-2 : Provide the following details for registration.

– Select your state

– Select your electricity distribution company

– Enter your Electricity Consumer Number

– Please enter the Mobile-Number

– enter email

– Please follow the instructions received from the portal.

Step-3 : Login with Consumer Number and Mobile Number.

Step-4 : Apply for Rooftop Solar as per the form.

Step-5 : Fill the online application form.

Step-6 : Wait for feasibility approval from Discom. Once you get the feasibility approval then install the plant by any registered vendor in your Discom.

Step-7 : After installation is complete, submit plant details and apply for net meter.

Step-8 : After installation of Net Meter and inspection by Discom, they will generate Commissioning Certificate from the portal.

Step-9 : Once you get the commissioning report. Submit the bank account details and a cancelled cheque through the portal. You will receive your subsidy in your bank account within 30 days.

Can applicant install Rooftop Solar system if applicant live in a rented house?

The RTS under any framework like net or gross metering can be installed by the electricity consumer. So, if applicant have electricity connection in his/her name and he/she pay regularly the electricity bill in his/her own name and also have the permission of use the roof for solar rooftop installation from the owner, he/she can install the RTS.

If applicant shift his/her residence or office where RTS is installed, what will happen to the RTS?

The system is easy to be dismantled and reassembled elsewhere. So, it can be shifted to new residence.
